In winning both singles and doubles titles in a tournament, Kudla did so for the second time in his career, last accomplished in 2014.
The Russian invasion of Ukraine has affected his family, and Kudla said those relatives are safe. His parents have been keeping up to date on loved ones in the country.
“Obviously the nerves and the stress of potential air strikes is not fun, but again, you just hope for peace, no war,” Kudla said. “It’s definitely a mess. It’s sad to see in this time. We just hope for the best and send all our blessings over there.
On the court, Kudla felt the momentum shift and rode it to the end of the match.
’This sport, what’s so good about it is there’s always next week,” he said. “To walk away with singles and doubles is more than I can ask for.””
Kudla has played in a number of major ATP events and Grand Slams in the past. He reached the fourth round at Wimbledon in 2015, and played in his 18th Challenger Tour final, with eight wins. Source: José M. Romero Arizona Republic
