I’m Troy Brathwaite, a New York City–based photographer and videographer drawn to real, unfiltered moments. Whether it’s a street portrait, a video interview, or an intimate family gathering, my Phocus is always on connection. To me, photography isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence. About noticing the beauty in the mundane.

A few years ago, when my son was born, I began asking myself questions.
What stories will I tell him about growing up in Brooklyn? About summers in Trinidad, the rhythm of West Indian culture, the lessons that shaped me?
And then, what about the stories of my uncles, aunties, and grandparents?
The ones our elders carry quietly, waiting to be passed down?
That question became The Legacy Project.
The Legacy Project is a visual storytelling series dedicated to preserving the voices, memories, and wisdom of the elders from all walks of life. Through portrait photography, video interviews, we capture their stories—so future generations can see, hear, and remember where they originate from.
It’s not just about nostalgia.
It’s about belonging.
Because when we honor the past, we strengthen the future.
In a fast-paced world, it’s easy to lose touch with our roots, our elders, and the stories that have shaped us. The Legacy Project exists to keep that connection alive. Every portrait is a bridge between generations. Every interview is a piece of history that might otherwise disappear.
This is memory turned into motion.
This is a legacy you can see.
